About Destination Explorer

Find a place that fits your weather, budget and passport.

Choosing where to go often means juggling weather charts, cost estimates and visa rules across different websites. Destination Explorer brings these comparisons into one place, helping you discover cities for a holiday, a remote-work stay or a change of scenery.

There is no single best destination for everyone. The aim is to make the trade-offs easier to see: a warmer winter, a drier summer, more affordable rent or simpler entry requirements.

How to use Destination Explorer

  1. Start with your priorities

Choose countries or regions in Places, set your passport and cost preferences, then select your travel months in Climate.

  2. Explore the map and monthly weather

Browse cities in list, split or map view. Each city card shows its monthly feels-like temperature, weather score, rain and sunshine, so you can compare the seasons rather than just an annual average.

  3. Build a shortlist and compare

Bookmark places that interest you and add cities to a side-by-side comparison. Use Visa Approvals to explore the available visa statistics.

Frequently asked questions

What is Destination Explorer for?

Destination Explorer helps you find cities that fit your preferred weather, budget and passport. Compare destinations on a map, check their monthly climate, narrow the list with filters and build a shortlist for a trip or a longer stay.

Where does the weather data come from?

Weather summaries use Open-Meteo historical ERA5 data averaged across multiple completed years. Temperature values average how warm or cold whole days feel. Rainfall, rainy days and sunshine summarize typical conditions for each month.

How are monthly weather scores calculated?

Each month receives a score from 0 to 10 based on perceived temperature, with a penalty for rain. Both the amount of rain and how often it rains affect the score. Higher scores indicate more comfortable conditions according to the app’s model. The green area in each city’s chart shows this score; the background colors show temperature. Sunshine is displayed for comparison but does not affect the score.

What does climate fit mean?

Climate fit is the average monthly score converted to a percentage: an average score of 7.2 means 72% climate fit. It uses your selected months, or the whole year if no months are selected. This gives you a consistent way to compare destinations using the app’s weather model.

What changes when I switch to beach scoring?

Beach scoring shifts the temperature comfort curve 4°C warmer, favoring warmer conditions than the standard score. Rain penalties still apply. The selected scoring mode is used throughout the explorer, including filtering, climate fit and city comparisons. The score focuses on air temperature and rainfall.

How do I find cities for particular travel months?

Open Climate in the toolbar and select your months, or click months directly on a city card. Every selected month must meet the minimum monthly score you set. Unselected months fade on the cards so your chosen period is easier to compare. Leave all months unselected to skip monthly filtering.

What do the dollar signs mean?

The dollar signs show a relative rent-cost level, from low to very high. Use them as a broad comparison; actual accommodation prices and total travel budgets vary. Gray dollar signs indicate that cost data is unavailable.

Which passports are supported for visa requirements?

Visa indicators support American, Antiguan and Barbudan, Armenian, Bangladeshi, Belarusian, British, Canadian, Dominican (Dominica), Egyptian, French, German, Grenadian, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Japanese, Jordanian, Kazakh, Kittitian and Nevisian, Nauruan, Ni-Vanuatu, Pakistani, Russian, Saint Lucian, Santomean (São Tomé and Príncipe), Serbian, and Turkish ordinary passports. Choose your citizenship in Places to update the indicators. Open an indicator for the available requirement, permitted stay, notes and source links. The data is prepared from Wikipedia with manual overrides; confirm current requirements with official sources before booking.

How can I save and compare cities?

Use the bookmark button on a city card to add it to your shortlist, then switch from All to Shortlist in the toolbar. The comparison button adds a city to a separate comparison selection. Once at least two cities are selected, open Compare cities to compare their average and monthly temperatures, scores, rainfall, rainy days and sunshine side by side.

What does the Visa Approvals tool show?

The Visa Approvals tool shows official visa issuance and refusal statistics. Schengen figures are grouped by the country where applications were submitted, while the other visa statistics use nationality. Select a country to explore the available rates, counts and sources.
